The Ywama village market, Inle Lake

Posted 1 year ago by pedro in response to pint's question: What do the locals have to offer in that market held in Ywama, on the Inle Lake island? They are soo poor... (give a different answer) .

True, they survive by farming the handmade islands, anchored by the lake's bottom with bamboo poles that eventually catch roots. Every 5 days, the inhabitants of the village fill their canoes with rice, melons, flowers and some really fat tomatoes and start winding down for customers. When they bump into Europeans, the bamboo hats, Burmese cigars, woven shoulder bags and silk sarongs are most requested.
