The Shwedagon pagoda in Yangon

Posted 1 year ago by posteye in response to avatar makka's question: How valuable is that pagoda in Yangon? I heard it has precious metals and diamonds... (give a different answer) .

Yep the pagoda on the Singuttara Hill is all sheathed in gold and with a centered bell-shaped stupa that is even more valuable. It has 32 stories and atop you'll see the twinkling of some 4,400 diamonds and precious stones. The peak? A 76-carat diamond. Still, for the Buddha pilgrims the biggest treasure is the relics from the four Buddha claimed to have appeared up to now on earth.
